The works come from the collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA), and were purchased at the biennials the Middelheim Museum organised since its inception.<\/p>\n<p>These fifty small sculptures bear witness to the renewed creative and artistic freedom discovered by post-war artists. In addition, they are precursors of contemporary art, not least through their choice of subject and material. The sculptures are therefore coming home to the Middelheim in more ways than one.\u00a0The museum is hosting the exhibition as part of the Dicht maar dichtbij (Closed but close by) programme of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, pending its reopening in 2019.
