BEYOND THE GARDEN. NATURE IN THE WORK OF FRANCESCO SOMAINI
On the occasion of Museocity, the Foundation is organizing guided tours of the exhibition Beyond the Garden. Nature in the Work of Francesco Somaini in which it will be possible to discover the green side in the artist’s work in more than half a century of activity through drawings, sculptures, urban redevelopment projects, interventions for architecture, installations and photomontages.
Starting with some Olive Tree Studies, made by the artist d’après nature during his stays in Chianciano (Siena) in the early 1950s, the research of those years will be complemented by some small sculptures made in gold bath, to which will be added other bronze sculptures and further drawings made later, attesting to the continuation of the sculptor’s interest in tree forms throughout his life. The itinerary will continue with a number of works from the 1970s and 1980s in which the artist’s reflection on the relationship between sculpture, architecture and urban context is clear, finally arriving at the artist’s last season, in which the human figure and the reflection on myth become central, evidenced by the realization of the anamorphic matrices and their traces, of which The Bacchae in the Forest of 1988 is one of the most authoritative examples.
