A Living Legacy in Lomazzo. Francesco Somaini 1926-2005

From 12 July To 3 October 2026
Area feste, Lomazzo (CO)

From Sunday, July 12th until October, a series of artistic and cultural events will enliven Lomazzo, marking the centenary of the birth of Francesco Somaini, born in Lomazzo in 1926.
The project, curated by the Municipality of Lomazzo and the Somaini Foundation with the support of several local cultural associations, is divided into three main sections: the installation of a sculpture by the artist in the festival area at Via Cavour 2, a photographic exhibition of previously unseen images of the artist at work, and the screening of a short documentary film. Each section features a program of activities for all ages, including workshops, dance, theater, performances, conferences, and debates.

From July 12th to October 3rd 2026, at the party area of Via Cavour 2 in Lomazzo, it is possible to see Fortunia vincitrice (1997-2000), a black resin example of the large bronze work located in the Bennet offices in Montano Lucino.

The site-specific intervention is designed to create a dialogue between the artwork, the environment, and the community, stimulating reflection on the role of art in everyday spaces and its ability to interact with the context in which it is inserted. The installation of the work transforms the urban space into a meeting place and a place for collective enjoyment, resonating with Somaini’s sculptures already present in Lomazzo, such as the War Memorial in the cemetery, the baptismal font, the mosaics, and the “open-heart cross” on the high altar of the church of SS. Vito and Modesto.
