Work in Progress. Artworks from Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Collicola and Marignoli of Montecorona Foundation

From 26 June To 26 September 2021

Salone d’onore Palazzo Collicola, Spoleto

The exhibition aims to compare two art collections of Spoleto: the collection of the Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Collicola and the collection of the Marignoli of Montecorona Foundation, creating a seamless historical line, from the 16th century to the contemporary era through a particular series of works, as models, preparatory sketches, studies. A total of 70 works are exhibited including drawings, paintings, sculptures, wooden maquettes, models, some of which were exceptionally recovered from the deposits of Palazzo Collicola or exhibited for the first time in public from the collection kept in Palazzo Marignoli.

Among these is also a sculpture by Somaini: Proposal for a monument II, 1961, bronze in a silver bath on iron base, 79 x 13 x 9 cm, base 2.3 x 15 x 15 cm. The work can be considered the sketch of the Great Proposal for a Monument II, 1961, iron on an iron base, 290 x 47 x 30 cm, base 7 x 79.7 x 80 cm, exhibited in Spoleto in 1962 as part of the Sculptures in the city exhibition and now at MUMOK in Vienna.
