Villa Necchi Campiglio, Milano
FAI presents the exhibition IN THE HOUSES. Interiors in Milan 1928-1978, curated by Enrico Morteo and Orsina Simona Pierini, with installation design by Daniela Ledda, open to the public from 6 November 2024 to 16 March 2025 at Villa Necchi Campiglio, a FAI property in the heart of Milan.
The initiative was born from the volume NELLE CASE – MILAN INTERIORS 1928-1978, recently published by Hoepli, which tells the story of Milanese living with an inside look, that is, at the interiors of Milanese houses, designed between the 1930s and 1970s, by some of the greatest and most famous Italian architects.
The exhibition literally puts on display much of the content of the volume published by Hoepli, which collects and organizes a real heritage of the history of architecture and design. The research by the same authors of the exhibition, started in 2018, has taken into consideration over 300 interiors created in Milan between 1928 and 1978, of which 200 are published in the volume and most are neatly represented in the exhibition. In addition to the 71 architects’ houses, the exhibition also features documents and images of further interiors; among the themes explored, “reinventing history”, “the architect’s hand”, “children’s bedrooms”, “the house is a painting” or “living in color”, which, for example, curiously extracts from some of the houses on display the color palettes chosen for spaces, furnishings and decorations. Among those represented, there are also some homes with mosaics and sculptures by Francesco Somaini.
