Water

Firstly it must be remembered that, since 1962, Somaini has been using an air and sand jet, initially to finish a few details, later in a wider and more systematic way, to get those particular fluid results that characterize his works of art.  The development of this technique was instrumental, I believe, in the parallel softening of his drawings and the need to act on Indian ink drawings to obtain special effects of light and dilution of the material. Here then is the technique of washed Indian ink on paper. on paper. Partly dried, partly wet drawings, that when dampened or directly dipped into water, with the right movement soften, modify and partially redistribute the Indian ink, with a certain degree of randomness that, from the 1980s, has become more and more evident.
